Should you use no-code or custom code?
Use no-code when the workflow is mostly CRUD, traffic is under 50k monthly users, and you need to ship fast. Skip no-code when the workflow has heavy custom logic, real-time compute, complex integrations, or expected scale beyond ~100k users. We build both. About 30% of our work starts as no-code MVP, then migrates to custom code at scale. The other 70% goes straight to custom. Per Gartner 2026 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Low-Code Application Platforms, the low-code and no-code market is projected to reach $45 billion by 2027, with about 70% of new enterprise apps using low-code by 2025 (Gartner forecast). The market is real; the limits are also real.
Decision rules of thumb. Use Bubble for full-stack apps with logic, auth, payments. Use Webflow for marketing sites and content-heavy pages with light CMS. Use Retool for internal admin tools over your existing API or database. Use Airtable when the data model matters more than the UI. Use Glide for mobile-first apps from spreadsheet data. Use OutSystems for enterprise low-code where governance, HIPAA, or GxP audit matters. Use FlutterFlow when you need a mobile app with one codebase plus visual editing plus exportable Dart code.
Platforms we build on
Bubble.io
Full-stack no-code. Visual builder plus workflow engine plus database plus user auth. Best for marketplaces, MVPs, internal apps. We add custom JavaScript plugins where Bubble hits performance or feature limits.
Webflow
Marketing sites and content-heavy pages with Webflow CMS. Best when SEO, visual control, and editorial workflow matter. Combine with Memberstack for paid memberships.
Retool
Internal tools and admin dashboards. Best when you need a CRUD UI over your existing API, database, or third-party tool (Salesforce, Stripe, AWS). Generally faster than building custom admin in 6 to 8 weeks.
Airtable
Database-first apps. Best for ops workflows where the data model is more important than the UI. Pair with Softr or Stacker for an external UI layer.
Glide
Mobile-first apps from spreadsheet or Airtable data. Best for field-team apps, simple consumer mobile, employee directory apps.
OutSystems
Enterprise low-code. Best for regulated industries (banking, healthcare, government) with strict governance, HIPAA BAA, and audit-grade workflow. Higher licence cost but enterprise-ready.
FlutterFlow
Visual builder that compiles to native Flutter. Best when you need a mobile app with one codebase, visual editing, plus the ability to export Dart code if you outgrow the platform.

Industry benchmark
Per Capterra 2026 no-code agency survey, independent no-code agencies (LowCode Agency, Airdev, Zeroqode) typically quote MVP builds at $8,000 to $25,000 with longer timelines. Senior teams quote higher with faster turnaround and stronger production-readiness on the same platforms.
How we ship a no-code build
Phase 1: Discovery (1 week)
User flows, data model, platform pick. We pick the platform based on the comparison table above; we do not pick by default. If the workflow stretches beyond what no-code handles cleanly, we say so and recommend a hybrid (no-code UI plus custom backend) or full custom build.
Phase 2: Design (1 week)
Visual design in Figma. Native platform UI components mapped to Bubble or Webflow. We design with no-code constraints in mind (avoid patterns that require custom JavaScript or that hit performance limits).
Phase 3: Build (3 to 6 weeks)
Two-week sprints. Live preview every sprint at staging URL. You can click through it, log feedback, watch it grow. Bug fixes during the sprint; feature changes go to v2 list.
Phase 4: Test and harden (1 week)
User-acceptance testing with your team. Performance check (Bubble apps need attention to workflow complexity and database query patterns). Accessibility audit. Security review (especially around auth and data access rules).
Phase 5: Launch (1 week)
Domain, SSL, monitoring, handover docs, training session with your team if they will own ongoing changes.
What drives no-code build cost
No-code MVP builds vary 2x to 4x in cost depending on five factors.
- Workflow count. One core workflow is baseline. Each additional workflow adds 15 to 25%.
- Integration count. Two integrations is baseline. Each additional integration (Stripe, HubSpot, Zapier, custom API) adds 10 to 20%.
- Custom plugins or code. Pure no-code is baseline. Each custom JavaScript plugin or custom React component adds 20 to 35% depending on complexity.
- Auth and permissions complexity. Single user role is baseline. Multi-role with granular permissions adds 25 to 40%.
- Performance tuning. Simple apps under 10k users are baseline. Apps designed to scale to 50k+ users on Bubble need workflow optimisation, database indexing strategy, custom plugins to avoid Bubble bottlenecks. Adds 20 to 35%.

FAQ
Yes, eventually. Most no-code MVPs hit a ceiling around 50k monthly users on Bubble, ~100k on Webflow, or when workflows need real-time compute. We design with that ceiling in mind: clean data model, documented logic, exportable structure. When you outgrow no-code, we rebuild in custom code with the same team.
Bubble for app workflows with logic, auth, payments, database. Webflow for marketing sites and content-heavy pages with light CMS. Both can coexist (Webflow for marketing site, Bubble for the product). Many of our clients run this hybrid.
Yes. Stripe integration on Bubble works out of the box. Auth via the platform plus Auth0 or Clerk if you need SSO. We have shipped no-code apps with both subscription billing and one-off Stripe checkout, including with iDEAL, SEPA, and ACH where the regional buyer requires it.
Platform-level security is generally good (SOC 2 on Bubble, Webflow, Retool, OutSystems). For regulated workloads (HIPAA, financial data, GxP) we typically recommend OutSystems for the governance controls or custom code. Bubble can handle some regulated workloads with careful data access rules and audit logging.
Yes. About 30% of our no-code builds eventually migrate. We design the data model to be portable from Day 1. Migration is rewrites of the UI and logic rather than rebuilding from scratch. Typical migration takes 40 to 60% of the original build time.
Yes, up to a point. Bubble apps run comfortably to ~50k monthly active users when workflows are optimised and queries are indexed. Beyond that, performance tuning becomes a constant battle. We have shipped Bubble apps to 100k+ users with custom plugins for the hot paths.
Three warning signs. (1) Real-time requirements (chat, live collaboration, multiplayer). (2) Complex business logic that would require 10+ custom JavaScript plugins. (3) Expected scale over 100k monthly active users with peak loads. If two of three apply, we recommend custom code.
Internal tool on Retool: 2 to 3 weeks. Marketing site on Webflow: 3 to 4 weeks. MVP web app on Bubble: 4 to 6 weeks. Production no-code build: 8 to 10 weeks. Enterprise OutSystems: 12 to 16 weeks.
Yes. Bubble and Webflow are designed for non-developer maintenance. We deliver documentation plus a training session covering how to make common changes (copy edits, new pages, workflow tweaks). Major changes still benefit from our involvement.
Yes. GA4 plus PostHog or Plausible from Day 1. Mixpanel for product analytics if the workflow has clear funnel stages. Hotjar or PostHog session replay for UX research post-launch.
Cookie consent layer (Cookiebot, Iubenda) configured. Data-subject-request workflow if the platform allows (Bubble does, Glide does not). EU-region hosting where the platform supports it (Bubble has EU regions). For strict GDPR (data residency, audit) we recommend Webflow, OutSystems, or custom code.
Yes. Webflow has native multi-language support. Bubble supports it with the Languages plugin (or custom approach with conditions). Retool internal tools usually do not need it.
Yes. We can ship a clickable Bubble or Webflow prototype in 1 to 2 weeks for $5,000. Useful when you need to test the concept with users or pitch investors before committing to the full build.
